卡迪夫又译加的夫，是联合王国四个构成国之一威尔士公国的首都和最大城市，同时卡迪夫郡也是威尔士的一个第一级行政区，卡迪夫首都圈人口约519,700，行政区面积约140平方公里，按人口计算为英国第十一大城市。威尔士政府和威尔士议会均位于此。 卡迪夫的中古威尔士语写为“Caerdyf”，其中“Caer”意为堡垒，“dyf”则是塔夫河的一种表达型式；完整的意思为“塔夫河畔堡垒”，也就是指今日的卡迪夫城堡。
