Vineyard Wind early Wednesday morning revealed that it has been given approval to resume installation of turbine blades after certain conditions are met, including the removal of some previously installed blades and the strengthening of others.

A spokesperson said power production "will resume only after additional progress is made and all requisite approvals are granted."

According to GE Vernova, the turbine blade failure was was caused by a "material or manufacturing deviation" at a factory in Gaspé, Canada.

The company said other blades had a “manufacturing deviation” similar to a blade that shattered in July off the coast of Nantucket.

It indicates to me that there appear to be more issues with more blades than just the one, and that’s as much as I know,” Nantucket Select Board Chairperson Brooke Mohr said Wednesday morning.
