Chris Johnson, 39, was arrested on more than a dozen counts of abuse of dead body, after deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office found 18 bodies in “various stages of decomposition” at Johnson Funeral Home in Douglas, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in an Oct. 27 news release.

The owner of Johnson Funeral and Cremation Services in Douglas has been charged after 18 bodies were found in different states of decomposition. According to a release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI),

A funeral homeowner in Georgia faces more than a dozen charges after 18 decomposing bodies were found. Chris Johnson was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to our news partners at WSB-TV. The investigation started when deputies attempted to serve an eviction notice at Johnson Funeral Home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Chris Johnson on Sunday after Coffee County sheriff’s deputies found 18 bodies in “various stages of decomposition,” WSB reported. Two pets, a dog and cat, were also found, WALB reported.

Chris Johnson, 39, of Douglas, has been arrested and charged with 17 counts of abuse of a dead body following a disturbing discovery at Johnson Funeral Home.

Several agencies were at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Services in Douglas on Saturday night. According to Douglas Now, 18 bodies, along with 2 pets — a dog and a cat —, in various states of decomposition were found during an eviction at the funeral home.
