Nvidia’s (NVDA) new artificial intelligence chip has its first customer, which plans to build the most powerful AI supercomputer in Japan.

Nvidia is expected to ship Blackwell GB200 servers to Big Tech clients this year. CEO Jensen Huang announced that SoftBank will receive the first DGX B200 GPU pods. Due to massive demand, there is currently a one-year waiting list for Blackwell chips.

SoftBank Group Corp. will be the first Nvidia Corp. customer to build a supercomputer based on the chipmaker’s new Blackwell design, a move to meet growing demand in a country eager to catch up in artificial intelligence.

SoftBank Group is the first customer to use Nvidia's Blackwell chips, which will be used to develop an artificial intelligence supercomputer in Japan. The companies plan to build the system — which they call Japan's most powerful supercomputer — in early 2025.
