American scientists and professors Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun won the 2024 Nobel Prize for Medicine after discovering microRNA.

Victor Ambros, on the UMass faculty since 2008, and Gary Ruvkun, of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, share the prestigious award, according to a Monday morning announcement by the Nobel Assembly. They earned a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Victor Ambros was born in Hanover, NH and grew up in Vermont. He and his research partner, Gary Ruvkun, won this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
